The 'J' pups rehomed March/April 2012
In January 2012 I received an email looking for advice with regards to three pups born of an accidental mating between a bearded collie and a border collie that were predominantly white, deaf and with various vision problems
The pups were 5weeks. It was thought that the girl could see and hear quite well, that one of the boys had a perfect eye and the other was covered by eyelid but didn’t seem to bump into things and it was not sure if the other boy could see or hear but that they were all big healthy playful pups and loved interaction.
I advised that they needed to find out how much sight (if any) the pups actually had by using torches and also watching for reactions to sunlight and shadows and to try out making sudden noises from different locations around them to check for any hearing. I also said I would do all I could to find homes for them and that there would always be a place for them here until forever homes were found for them through WYDR.
The vet had advised that they should be put to sleep but thankfully they just couldn’t do it.
Quote from a heart rendering email:
“I know boys deaf and blind. Girl has limited sight and not sure of hearing but I live with her and think she can a little and she can follow me round the room. Just can't give up on her. The boys I just don't know, what quality of life would they have? Just sat and cried most of night.”
To say my heart went out to her is an understatement as the worries about quality of life were all the things I had gone through when I first got Teija. I sent her links to this website and implored her not to give-up on any of them.
This I am glad to say did the trick and actually gave them some hope, which as they said they had not had before. It was decided that the pups would come to me when they were 10weeks old.

Update: 5 June 2012
Very SAD news - Ollie (Joel) is no longer with us. He developed a brain condition and the kindest thing to do was to pts and stop his suffering. RIP little man :(
Update: May 2013
Milo (Jed) and his best friend little Izzy
(was Bella, also deaf)
After the loss of Ollie it was decided that Milo needed a companion and so when little Bella came to me as a foster from the pound introductions were made ... they were mates from the very start.
Update: June 2014
Spent the afternoon catching-up with Jessie
All grown-up into a beautiful dog in both looks and nature.
Mind you she is still a little minx and knows just how to get around you so she gets her own way :)
