LEO (re-homed Dec 2007)
Leo was an abuse case
A GSD cross about 10 weeks old
He was terrified of everything and would throw himself to the floor and wet himself even if you looked in his direction.
A raised hand would have him cowering under anything he could find and he had so obviously been beaten and the sweeping brush as just the sight of it would have him scurrying away howling for all he was worth.
However he was a bright little lad and by letting him watch our girls being fussed and loved he eventually got over his fear of being approached. Then one day he came to us and gingerly touch his nose to our ankle to be stroked, although it still took a good deal of patience and time before he trusted that he was going to get a fuss every time and not be hit.
Hubbie is often just there in the background of all the rescue work that goes on in the house but a vital part of the love and attention these dogs need. Leo got to him in a big way and he would have been quite happy to have kept him.
He broke our hearts.
He was so young and had gone through so much already.
Kali worked her magic and taught him to play and at last he found his feet and started to be a puppy and enjoy a cuddle.
A big issue for Leo was being held, he would panic every time so one evening hubbie scoops him up and before he could register what was happening carted him upstairs to bed. When I walked in the following morning Leo was blissfully content snuggled-up in hubbies arms.

December 2007
Leo was re-homed to a lovely couple with a little boy who he became inseparable from. When the lad eventually started school Leo would take himself up into his room and lie on the bed until he came home again.
