So it has been with the last two fosters.
Olly was so focused on small furries that it put everyone on edge the whole time. The cats stopped coming in as much and could never settle if they did for fear of being targeted. This is turn unsettled the dogs as they were always on edge waiting to protect the cats.
As soon as Olly had gone Skye arrived complete with her own issues. She had been used to being an only dog for 8yrs and it was a big learning curve or her to have to live in amongst our pack. This time the cats were not a problem, as she just ignored them but it was the dogs. Skye very quickly identified me and hers and then would not let anyone else anywhere near me. She was fine outside with other dogs but in the house she liked her human to herself (something she had been used to) and being a large dog she knew just how to use her excess weight to push things her way, and backed it up with aggression if she had to.
As soon as we were back to just our merry little gang the whole persona within the house settled and with everyone calm again we appreciated just how much stress the last few months had caused.
This does not mean that we are going to stop fostering but we think our pack needs a break to re-group for a little while.
