This year thus far ...
We have gone from five dogs to three.
In April we lost Miz-Mouse, one of the loveliest little dogs I have had the pleasure to know and by August Ali-Katz had also gone to Rainbow Bridge. We were hoping that was to be our quota for a while, but we have now gone from three cats to two.
Harvey took a turn for the worst with an infection in his good eye. He has always been prone to similar problems, as he was blinded in one from abuse before he was rescued and came to us. We have usually managed successfully with antibiotics, but this time the infection was so prevalent that it caused seizures and if that wasn’t enough, it rendered him completely blind, which he could work out how to cope with. He was constantly terrified of everything and lost all quality of life, which is no way to exist.
Knowing that it was kinder for him, for us to let him go didn’t help us in the slightest. Whilst the logical side of my brain upholds all the principals of this being one of the greatest gifts that we can give our animals, it still breaks my heart every time.
